ULTRALASIK surgery is a 100% laser surgery that corrects myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It is the combination of a cut made with a latest generation laser and a personalized laser treatment.
If you are between 18 and 39 years old, your lens still has its ability to focus. The quality of your vision depends on the shape of your eye. If the curvature of your eye is imperfect and/or if your eye is too long/too short, this results in a defocusing of the image which must be compensated by an optical correction. The ULTRALASIK surgery corrects the imperfections in the shape of your eye with micrometer accuracy by removing thin layers of cells on the surface of the cornea. The ULTRALASIK surgery is intended for young people over 18, who have a lens in the prime of life and for whom eyesight has been stable for at least a year.
If your eyewear prescription, for either glasses or contact lenses, has changed by more than 0.75 dioptre during the last year, you should wait for your eyes to stabilize before proceeding with surgery. Laser surgery does not put a stop to the natural evolution of your vision.
ULTRALASIK surgery is the most common laser treatment for which the recovery period is the shortest. A flap is created and lifted from the surface of the eye and the laser is applied to the underlying layer of the cornea.
TRANS PRK surgery is a laser surface ablation which can be an alternative when ULTRALASIK surgery is contraindicated. This technique may be preferable depending on the thickness of your cornea and the risks associated to your job or your favorite activities. Our team will make it their duty to inform you about this correction option if you meet the selection criteria.
Both procedures are available at the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic. Your ophthalmologist and optometrist will tell you about the various alternatives. The surgeon will guide you to the procedure best suited to your needs.

The Phake lens is a correction option for people with large prescriptions. These lenses may present an alternative to ULTRALASIK surgery if it is not safe for your eyes.
Sometimes laser surgery is not indicated for some patients due to a significant visual problem. It is then possible to implant a Phake lens which will be placed inside the eye, between the iris and the lens, where it will remain until the vision undergoes a significant change during the evolution of presbyopia.
It makes it possible to remedy large visual handicaps and it does not prevent a lens replacement when the time comes. Following this intervention, annual follow-ups are necessary at the IRIS ophthalmology clinic.
